    A-D searching for gardeners

The Appeal-Democrat is looking for local gardeners growing their own produce.

Has the economy prompted you to try your hand at backyard farming for the first time? Or are you a seasoned veteran amping up your produce efforts this year to cut grocery costs?

We want to know why you garden, where and how much.

To share your garden story, contact reporter Ashley Gebb at 749-4724 or agebb@appeal democrat.com.

    Free food for Blood donors

Donors who visit a BloodSource Center or bloodmobile Thursday or Friday will receive a free lunch from Togo's and a coupon for a pint of Baskin-Robbins ice cream.

BloodSource is located at 1290 Stabler Lane, Suite 830, Yuba City. Donors must be in generally good health, at least 17 years old, and weigh at least 110 pounds.

The July 4 weekend is a difficult time for blood centers as people leave for vacation or cancel blood-donation appointments, and auto and recreational-activity accidents increase, according to a BloodSource statement.

Participants who donate blood between Wednesday and Sept. 8 will be entered in a weekly drawing for a $250 fuel card. For more information, call 866-82BLOOD.
