FREED open house set

FREED, Center for Independent Living, is hosting a holiday open house from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 11 at 508 J St. in Marysville.

The event includes holiday treats and appetizers, with coffee and soda provided.

Yuba County

Health program moved

Yuba County's recreation program will move its Kid-Fit series to Thursday afternoons, beginning with the six-week session starting in January.

The program, which is designed to educate children and their parents about proper health and nutrition, will have sessions for 2- and 3-year olds from 3:15 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. and for 4- and 5-year-olds from 3:45 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. on Thursdays at Pro Fitness, 424 D St., Marysville.

A healthy heart is the focus of the next session from Jan. 4 to Feb. 12.

Other sessions on skin, the brain, body parts, muscles and eyes/ears are scheduled through September. Each six-week session is $20. To reserve a space, call 743-1847.

Marysville

Meckler speaking to GOP

Mark Meckler, co-coordinator of the California Tea Party Patriots, is the featured speaker at the next meeting of the Yuba County Republican Party.

The event is at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 9 at the Yuba-Sutter Chamber of Commerce building, 10th and E streets, Marysville.

Meckler will talk about efforts to get an initiative about protecting public employees from union deductions for political purposes qualified for the November general election.

Positions open on boards

Applications are available for positions on several boards, commissions and committees appointed by the Yuba County Board of Supervisors.

Vacancies exist on the Assessment Appeals Board No. 2, Community Services Commission, Fish and Game Advisory Commission and Housing Advisory and Appeal Board.

Also, the In-home Supportive Services Advisory Committee, Resource Conservation District, Smartsville Cemetery District, Sutter-Yuba Local Child Care Planning Council and Yuba County Trails Commission.
