    Blood drive at Movies 8 Friday

    A "twilight premiere" blood drive is slated from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the BloodSource bloodmobile at Cinemark Movies 8 in Yuba City.

    Participants will receive a free BloodSource T-shirt.

    Donors must be in generally good health, weigh at least 110 pounds and be at least 17 years old, or 16 with parental consent.

    Holiday dinner for homeless

    The fourth annual early Thanksgiving dinner for the homeless, sponsored by the Yuba City Seventh-day Adventist Church, is slated Wednesday at the Adventist Christian School.

    Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. at 369 Harding Road, Yuba City. For more information, call 415-1166.

    Yuba-Sutter

    Coat giveaway set for Saturday

    The 12th Annual Yuba-Sutter Coats for Kids and Adults giveaway will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at a new location, Camp Singer at 1023 14th St. in Marysville.

    Donated new and used coats are still being accepted at various locations including Butler Cleaning, Sutter North Medical Foundation and Del Norte clinics, Raley's and Bel Air, Jacques Dance, Curves in Marysville, Village Pharmacy, St. Isidore Catholic School and Yuba-Sutter Disposal Inc.

    The project is sponsored by the Sunset Buttes Lions Club, Sutter North Medical Foundation, YSDI and Butler's.

    DQ collecting gifts for needy

    Dairy Queen in Yuba City is collecting donations of gifts to be distributed during the holidays to local families in need.

    Items for all ages, including teenagers, who organizers say are often forgotten during such drives, can be dropped off until Dec. 10 at 1375 Live Oak Blvd.

    The donations will be given to the First Christian Church in Marysville for distribution.

    Sutter Buttes

    Hike to volcano slated Nov. 29

    The Yuba Historical Society is hosting a "Ridge Walker Delight" hike in the Sutter Buttes.

    Scheduled from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 29, the hike will go to the Buttes' volcano and includes instruction on the area's geology and stories of the Maidu and Wintun Indians.

    Cost for the hike is $30 for Historical Society members; $40, nonmembers; and $10 for children 12 years and under.

    Yuba Historical Society memberships start at $15.
