Gridley

Pearl Harbor event Sunday

The National Pearl Harbor Remembrance 67th anniversary will be observed at 9:55 a.m. Sunday at the memorial flagpole on the Butte County Fairgrounds, 199 E. Hazel St., Gridley.

The gates will be open from 8 a.m. to noon for visitors.

The observance is sponsored by the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, Feather River Chapter No. 25.

Marysville

Running of Elves set for Saturday

The 2008 Running of the Elves 5K Run/Walk, in memory of Juan Angel Rodriguez, is set Saturday starting in front of the Bok Kai Temple, First and D streets, Marysville.

Registration begins at 8:15 a.m., with the run/walk at 9 a.m. Participants will travel through Beckwourth Riverfront Park and the Fifth Street bridge pedestrian path.

Medals will be given to the top three male and female finishers in each division and awards will go for the best costume related to the event's theme.

The fee on race day is $20 adults and $10 for 16 years and under. Checks may be made payable to the Yuba College Foundation.

Yuba City

Book signing during stroll

Illustrator Joni Stringfield, a resident of Yuba City, will be available to sign copies of her two recent books from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday at J&J Custom Framing in Yuba City during the Plumas Street Christmas Stroll.

The business is at 642 Plumas St.

Stringfield is the illustrator for "Circle of Three: Enough Friendship to go Around?" by Elizabeth Brokamp and "Butterfly Kisses for Grandma and Grandpa" by Alayne Kay Christian.

Copies of the children's books, along with prints framed by J&J Custom Framing, will be available for purchase.

Stringfield is a graduate of Yuba College and the Academy of Art University in San Francisco.

Browns Valley

'Christmas at the Ranch' Saturday

Vendor booths and free wagon rides for children are part of "Christmas at the Ranch" hosted by Rock-N-Rose Ranch and Feed in Browns Valley.

The event is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at 5370 Marysville Road, behind the Chevron Station.

Elks to honor dead members

The Annual Elks Memorial Service, honoring Elks members who have died, will be held at 11 a.m. Sunday at Elks Lodge No. 783, 920 D St., Marysville.

Past members to be honored include Robert A. Brown, Ronald Carden, John Dower, Wade Kitchens, Glen W. Koball, Donald D. Perkins, Raymond R. Roy, Charles E. Watters, Bill Bremmer, Keith Kolar, Thomas Mikinka and Burwell Ulrey.

Refreshments will follow.
