How to Submit an Obituary

How do I publish a loved one’s death in the newspaper and online?
Family members may place a paid obituary in the Appeal-Democrat or choose a death notice that is published without charge. The following information explains these terms and how you should proceed.

Death Notices
Basic information is published one time with name of the deceased, age, city of residence, services or pending notice

Paid Obituaries
Families frequently give more details about their loved one, including a photograph. As an added service to you, paid obituaries are included on www.appealdemocrat.com. Each obituary is archived at appealdemocrat.com and can be made into a printable version or emailed to friends and family.

For each subsequent issue ….. 50% discount

Legacy
Legacy.com is an online guest book that allows friends and family to express condolences and share memories. Your guest book remains online for a full year.

Guidelines
Paid Obituary deadlines are as follows:
Submissions received by 3pm Monday through Thursday will publish the next day.
Submissions received by 11am on Friday will be published on Saturday or Sunday.
Submissions received by 10am on Saturday will be published on Monday.

A proof and price will be faxed or emailed. Deadline to reply is 4pm the day prior.
Please double check the spelling of names, towns, etc. prior to submission.

Obituary Hours
Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm
Saturday 8am to 11am

Copy and photo submission is preferred via email in Microsoft Word. Fax and hard copy delivery are also accepted.
