Roundup: Sutter softball finishes season ranked No. 1 in state
After going 31-0 and winning the Northern Section Division IV title game for the second straight year, the Sutter High softball team topped the Division IV state rankings.
The Huskies finished the season ranked No. 1 in the state by CalHiSports, just in front of Parker High, of San Diego, and Horizon, of San Diego.
Colusa softball (25-2-2) was ranked sixth in the state among Divsion V teams.
Yuba City baseball (28-3) was ranked No. 2 in Division III behind Beckman, of Irvine, before Monday's section victory, while East Nicolaus (22-2) wound up ranked No. 5 in Division V.
RACING
Cy Cooper participated in the Pacific Division National Open at the Sacramento Raceway Park over the weekend. The nine-year-old was the number one qualifier and won his age category.
Tyler Koranda, from Sutter, was the winner of the 15-17 age division.
Dozier wins event
Yuba-Sutter's Kevin Dozier, 6, won his first main event and second heat race at Cycleland Speedway in early April in the outlaw karts.
He finished fourth in the main event and second in his heat race later in mid-April. Dozier won the qualifying heat and the main event in Davis on April 26.
On May 17, Dozier was victorious in his qualifying and main events in the kid kart class in Davis.
RODEO
Katie Lee competed at the Wrangler Junior High School Rodeo State Finals in Plymouth over the weekend. Lee participated in breakaway roping and goat tying.
She won the first round with a time of 2.74 and the last round (2.98). Lee advances to the National Junior Rodeo Finals in Gallup, New Mexico in June.
