RV junior midgets cruise into semis

The River Valley Jr. Falcons' junior midgets advanced to the Northern California Federation of Youth Football Div. I semifinals with a 44-22 playoff victory over the Foothill Cougars at Sutter High on Saturday.

Omar Herrera scored two rushing touchdowns, Auston Pinkston threw for two scores and ran for another and Austin Van Poole added a touchdown on the ground to lead the Falcons (8-1).

Angelo Croft and Emelio Velasquez caught Pinkston's touchdown tosses.

Both Herrera and Van Poole rushed for more than 100 yards, coach Mike Pinkston said.

Middle linebacker Cody Meyers spearheaded the River Valley defense with 10 tackles and an interception.

Blue Fury wins two games

The Azzurri Blue Fury under-12 age team won both of its games in the Pumpkin Kick Tournament on Saturday at the Wheeler Auto Soccer Complex in Beckwourth Riverfront Park.

The Blue Fury stopped Orangevale United, 2-1, behind goals by Giovanni Aguilar and Ivan Ambrocio, and blanked the Grass Valley Stampede, where Kobe Babcroft scored three goals, Aguilar hit two, and Ambrocio, Andres Moreno, Luke Bicknell and Sulivan Guy each added one.

Robert Quintero played outstanding in goal. Jake Monroe, Gilberto Lopez, Juan Lopez, Emiliano Montoya, Alexander Hall and Chase Gordan led the defense.

The Blue Fury plays again at 10 a.m. today to finish group play. A win could put them in the championship tilt at 2 p.m.
