One more run on old field
The Yuba College football team wraps up its Bay Valley Conference slate today when the 49ers play host to visiting Solano.
The contest will also be the final game played at the old field before construction of the Niners' new stadium begins on Nov. 30.
The regular season finale will also be fan appreciation day with free raffles for food and drinks as well as Yuba College football apparel. The team will also sell game-worn jerseys for this years players. Children in football jerseys will be admitted free.
The game is a big one for the 49ers (4-5, 2-1), who come in just one game back of the College of the Redwoods in the BVC standings. Playoffs and bowl rankings will be released Sunday.
With injuries hampering the offense all season, Yuba has had to rely on its strong defensive unit to carry the load. The 49ers are ranked 14th in the state in total defense with defensive end Rony Nelson being the catalyst. Nelson leads all linemen with 74 tackles and leads the state with 13.5 sacks.
Former Sutter High standout Jon Garcia has bounced back from a severe concussion and had his best game of the season two weeks ago against Redwoods when he threw for 280 yards and two touchdowns.
Mark Winters leads the 49ers on the ground with 602 yards rushing and five TDs. Solano comes in at 2-7 overall and 1-2 in BVC play.
Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
