Yuba City slips in second half
Senior Max Flores scored twice in the first half to keep the Yuba City High football team alive in the Sac-Joaquin Section Div. III playoff game, but the Honkers committed five turnovers in the second half and fell 28-14 to host Patterson.
It was the best season the Honkers had put together since 1987, when they lost in the section title game to Tracy.
Flores tallied 147 all-purpose yards with touchdowns on a 65-yard run and a 20-yard pass from quarterback David Schroeder.
Schroeder finished with six completions for 115 yards. Taylor Rowe rushed for 56 yards on seven carries for the Honkers (8-4).
"We had a great season, the best this program has seen in a while. We made a lot of growth, battled hard and were banging on the door of a championship," Yuba City head coach John Ithurburn said. "We have a good sophomore class coming up, good juniors and good freshmen. We should be in good shape. I'm proud of these guys."
