River Valley boys soccer cruises past Marysville
Castulo Carvajal and Milad Rahim both scored a pair of goals and the River Valley High boys soccer team rolled Marysville 5-0 at home on Thursday.
Felipe Rodriguez added a score for the Falcons (4-3-2).
The Indians junior varsity team won 4-2. Thomas Mehler notched a hat trick for the third time this year and Gabe Osorio added a score for Marysville.
Redding Chr. 3, Faith Chr. 1
Strong defensive play from Zach Barnett, Cameron Ripley and Josh Hill wasn't enough for the Lions, who fell on the road.
Blake Lavin scored off a Skylar Ripley assist for Faith Christian (3-6).
VOLLEYBALL
Live Oak 3, Winters 0
Ashley Howell tallied 10 kills and three blocks, Stephanie Taylor had seven kills and Paulina Heredia added six kills and five aces in the Lions' 25-12, 25-16, 26-24 win at home.
Bibi Alejo notched five aces and three kills for Live Oak (5-3).
Faith Chr. 3, Redding Chr. 0
The Lions are now 4-0 to start their season after rallying to win three straight games in a 22-25, 21-25, 25-20, 25-15, 15-13 match on the road.
Gabi Hinz had 15 assists and six kills, Danielle Best tallied six kills and 10 assists and Justine Ekdawy added six kills for Faith Christian.
The Lions' JV team won 25-22, 25-19. Lauren Heinrick had five aces and Abbie Rollins played well defensively and added three aces for Faith.
Wheatland 3, Lindhurst 0
Kristen Keys tallied six aces and Rachel Johnson added three kills and two blocks in the 25-9, 25-11, 25-4 victory for the Pirates (3-0).
The Wheatland JV team won 25-7, 25-12. Arianna Neuenkirk and Elicia Villafranco each had five aces. The Pirates' freshman won 25-7, 25-2.
River Valley 3, Colusa 1
The Falcons rebounded after dropping their first game to win 25-27, 25-19, 25-21, 25-17 at home.
Alex Tanner had 12 kills, Taylor Loehrer tallied six kills and four blocks, Hayley Thompson added seven kills and Chelsey Jurado dished out 21 assists for the Falcons (2-3).
Meghan Foster led Colusa with seven kills and three blocks, Caroline Meyers added five kills and four blocks and Magaly Acevedo tallied six aces for the Redskins (0-3).
River Valley's JV team won 25-21, 12-25, 15-3. Emily Mobley had seven kills and two aces and Olivia Bassett notched two aces for Colusa.
FROSH FOOTBALL
Sutter 20, River Valley 0
Auston Harris tossed a 22-yard touchdown pass to Trent Little and Mat Sanders and Philip Robledo added rushing for the Huskies (2-0) at home.
Sutter's defense recorded it's second straight shutout after blanking Willows 35-0 to start the season.
Wheatland 46, Marysville 0
Cody Williams was 10 of 15 for 68 yards and Richard Powell rushed for 71 yards for the Indians, who opened their season with the defeat.
