Local Briefs: Yuba baseball drops openers

Local Briefs published in Tuesday's paper.

The 49ers' season openers were first spoiled by rain, then later by Butte College.

The Roadrunners defeated the Yuba College baseball team 6-2 in a lay-over game on Monday. The loss was followed by a pitcher's duel — a 2-1 loss for Yuba.

Yuba's Stephen Robison went 2-for-2, while Joe Garcia and Zach Walden each recorded a couple of hits in the first game. Anthony Stolo went 2-for-4 in the second game.

Kendyle Blank had a nice outing in the second game, allowing just one run through the first innings.

PREP GIRLS SOCCER

Colusa 4, Esparto 0

Jessica Garcia scored two goals to help the Colusa High girls soccer team shut out Esparto.

This win keeps the Redskins at a perfect 15-0 on the season and 14-0 in the Sacramento Valley League. Nanci Villanueva and Carli Marengo each had a goal in the victory.

"The midfield, made up of Marengo, Talyn Imhoff, Hannah Carter and Stephine Munguia, controlled the game," said coach Randy Watt.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Golden Sierra 42, Marysville 25

Paola Sotelo scored 10 points to lead the Indians in the Golden Empire League home loss.

Amy Lawson put up seven points for Marysville (7-16, 3-6).

The junior varsity team won 32-24. Rosa Gonzalez had 15 points and Kallie Cano added six for the Indians (10-7, 2-2).

FROM FRIDAY:

Encina 87, Marysville 56

Adam Lomax finished with 17 points to help the Indians in the GEL loss.

Tim Rorie had 12 points and Alex Cummings tallied 11 rebounds and nine points for Marysville.

Pioneer 76, River Valley 56

Manik Thiara scored 16 points and Gabriel Finley added 14, but the Falcons fell in the road Tri-County Conference game.

River Valley (14-9, 5-3) is tied with Pioneer for second place in league with the loss.
