LITTLE LEAGUE: Peach Bowl senior softball cruises
First, the Peach Bowl senior softball all-stars took the District 2 championship.
Now, the team's showing the East Bay what it can do.
Hannah Heitman was 3 for 3 with three runs and two RBIs, and Peach Bowl rolled past Airport Little League 19-3 to advance in sectional play in Benicia.
Jostyn Bebout was 2 for 4 with three runs and two RBIs and Savannah Besso picked up the win for Peach Bowl, which will play again today.
Lauren Ashburn, Courtney Bybee, Kelsey Smith and Chelsea Braun all had a hit and scored for Peach Bowl.
MAJOR SOFTBALL
Peach Bowl 5, Antioch 4
It took 10 innings and three hours, but the Peach Bowl all-stars are staying alive.
Sydney Kraft came through with the walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 10th to extend Peach Bowl's season at the Divisional tournament at Westside Park in Rio Linda Saturday.
Emma Ashburn was nails in the circle, pitching nine innings and striking out 14.
She only allowed two hits and an earned run.
Ashburn, Kraft and Lacey DeSalles were all 2 for 5 at the plate for Peach Bowl.
Alyssa Ashburn was 1 for 2 and scored twice. Kayla Lynch finished 2 for 4.
Peach Bowl 5, Auburn 1
Peach Bowl ended its Saturday with a solid win and now are one of three remaining teams in a tournament that began with 14 teams.
Lynch only allowed two hits to pick up the win.
Emma Ashburn was 3 for 3 and was a homer shy of the cycle.
Maya Shine knocked in a run and Jordan Thomas scored.
Coach Brian Ashburn credited DeSalles for her efforts as she caught all 16 innings on Saturday.
Peach Bowl will try to inch closer to the title with a 10 a.m. matchup today against the loser of Gilroy and Cosumnes River.
JUNIOR SOFTBALL
Marysville 7, East Hills 1
The Marysville junior all-stars opened sectional play with a victory in Rancho Murieta.
Brandy Gilliam was 2 for 4 with two doubles and drove in two runs. She was also solid in the circle with a complete-game effort.
Kennedy Baker and Lenzey Garcia were both 2 for 3 with a double, while Baker picked up an RBI.
Amya Bell drove in two runs and Maci Bartolome finished 2 for 4 with an RBI.
Tournament play resumes for Marysville on Monday at 5:15 p.m.
MAJOR BASEBALL
Sutter Buttes 6, Susanville 2
Clayton Chipchase led the way on the mound, and his teammates backed him up in the batter's box as Sutter Buttes advanced in Eureka.
Chipchase struck out 13 batters while scattering one hit over 52⁄3 innings pitched and Jordan Bauer had a home run and three RBIs.
Dakota Asher had a double and an RBI and Joe Boyle added an RBI for Sutter Buttes.
JUNIOR BASEBALL
Marysville 1, Westside-Chico 0
Seth Echevarria scored the lone run as Marysville advanced in Redding.
Echevarria was hit by a pitch in the sixth inning, stole second and third base, and was brought in by a single from Marshall Duncan.
Andy Alllison pitched three innings and Hayden Page pitched four to combine for the shutout.
