YC's Pinedo races to win
Cristobal Pinedo, the heir apparent to the Yuba City High cross country throne, won the John Orognen Fun Run along the Feather River levees at Beckwourth Riverfront Park on Saturday.
Pinedo covered the 2-mile course in 10 minutes, 44 seconds to edge out River Valley’s best, T.J. Wy at 10:50. Both are seniors.
The Falcons’ Meredith Salazar, a junior, won the girls’ race in a time of 14:32. Sophomore Olivia Jacques, one of the Honkers’ top 800-meter runners last spring, was second at 15:16.
The top runners by grade level were, for seniors: Heather Radcliffe (21:13) of Yuba City and Pinedo; for juniors: Salazar and Eric Faires (11:05) of Gridley; for sophomores: Jacques and Grant Higgins (13:51) of River Valley; and for freshmen: Liliana Pinedo (17:45) and Trevor Hammill (12:47), both of Yuba City.
The event is named after legendary California track and field coach John Orognen, who coached many years at Yuba College.
