Sutter's Morehead takes 7th at Nationals
Sutter High graduate Austin Morehead went to Fargo, N.D., for the Junior National Freestyle Wrestling Championships on July 22-24 and represented Team California with a seventh-place finish.
Morehead's record was 6-2, with three pins and three wins by decision. There were 68 competitors in his 189-pound weight class.
He also wrestled in the Junior National Greco Wrestling Championships on July 19 and 20. He went 4-2 and all four were pins. Unfortunately, he didn't place in the top eight, but was in the top 14 with one round short of placing. There were 62 competitors in his 189-pound weight class.
Three locals compete at triathlon
Scott Round, Chris Bridges and Bobby Cooper participated in the Western States Police and Fire games on July 26, competing in the triathlon. Rounds finished with a time of 2 hours, 29 minutes which earned him first place in the 35-39 age group and also finished in first place overall.
Bridges finished with a time of 2:37.00, which earned him first place in the 30-34 age group and third place overall. Cooper finished with a time of 3:11.00 which earned him a second-place finish in the Clydesdale division.
