No Joshin' around: Garner takes title

Live Oak cowboy and Arbuckle's Cox announced as all-around winners at Gridley rodeo

The results are finally in, and to no suprise the kid from Live Oak finished on top.

Live Oak's Josh Garner captured the amateur all-around title at the annual two-day Tri-County Junior/Amateur Rodeo last weekend in Gridley.

Macey Cox of Arbuckle won the junior all-around title.

Orland's Jenna Price was the amateur reserve all-around champion while Livermore's Armando Fagliano won the junior reserve all-around title.

Garner, who is the two-time defending all-around champion in the California High School Rodeo Association's District 3, won both the amateur bull riding and steer wrestling, and he finished second in calf roping.

Cox won the junior breakaway roping, finished second in poles bending and goat tying, 11th in steer daubing and 26th in barrel racing.

Wheatland's C.J. DeForest, who won the CHSRA District 3 title in 2004 and 2005 and who participated in tie-down roping at the College National Finals Rodeo last spring, won the amateur calf roping and finished sixth in team roping.

DeForest's younger brother, Chant, who is the quarterback on the Marysville High football team, finished sixth in calf roping.

Amateur winners were:

Calf roping: C.J. DeForest, Wheatland; Team roping: Ryan Parker, Williams; Barrel racing: Jessica Moore, Red Bluff; Breakaway roping: Karen Moore, Gridley; Bull riding: Josh Garner, Live Oak; Goat tying: Jessica Moore, Red Bluff; Pole bending: Reiney Hatch, Ukiah; Steer wrestling: Josh Garner, Live Oak.

Junior winners were:

Barrel racing: Samantha McCarley, Middleton; Breakaway roping: Macey Cox, Arbuckle; Calf riding: Armando Fagliano, Livermore; Goat tying: Katie Lee, Yuba City; Pole bending: Leandra Millard, Eagle Point; Mutton bustin: Zackary Degischer, Yuba City; Single stake: Leandra Millard, Eagle Point; Steer daubing: Maxie Holmberg-Douglas, Penn Valley; Steer riding: Clayton Brum, Lockeford.
