Prep Roundup: Lindhurst soccer continues to cruise

The Lindhurst High boys soccer team blanked Marysville 5-0 on Monday.

Erik Machuca scored a pair of goals, while Gabriel Vasquez, Juan Carlos Bermudez and Jesus Garcia each added another.

Machuca and Bermudez also each recorded a pair of assists, while Vasquez added another.

With the win Lindhurst improves to 3-0-1 on the season.

Marysville's junior varsity team won 7-3.

Thomas Mehler tallied his fifth hat trick this season. Jacob Villa also scored three goals and Gabe Osorio scored the one as well. Jose Madrigal recorded two assists for the Indians (7-3-1, 2-0).

Yuba City 2, Bella Vista 0

Isaac Mora scored both goals to help the Honkers remain undefeated. Dario Teyes and Jose Bermudez each had an assist.

Trevor Kent, Pedro Guzman, Mario Zabala and Manny Oregel played well on defense for Yuba City (14-0).

The junior varsity team won 3-1. Juan Lopez, Milton Rossini and Jorge Baltista scored a goal each.

Goalies Jose Chavez and Ben Anderson played well for the Honkers (12-0-1).

FIELD HOCKEY

Yuba City 1, River Valley 0

River Valley's Sarah Marratto, Melissa Correa and Diana Callazo were credited for their defensive play by Falcons coach Rebekah Carlson.

"They really played as a team tonight," said Carlson.

Ashly Engelheart had 12 saves in goal for the Falcons (0-4).

River Valley's junior varsity team won 1-0. Hayley Baeumler scored the goal for the Falcons (1-3).

VOLLEYBALL

Valley Chr. 3, New Life Chr. 0

Katrina Cobb did well from the service line, but the Crusaders fell 15-25, 24-26, 21-25 at home.

Ramen Kaur and Kiley DeLozier played well offensively for New Life (0-4).

CROSS COUNTRY

Luis Zuniga finished third in overall in the 3.1 mile course with a time of 18-minutes, 37-seconds to help Yuba City's cross country track team place second last Wednesday. Other Honkers top-20 finishers were Jose Guzman (10th, 19:55) and Jo ann Fernandez Rodriguez (18th, 21:33).

In the varsity girls division, freshman Holly McAlister was fourth overall (24:32). Liliana Pinedo (10th, 27:44) and Emily Wolverton (11th, 27:51) were top-20 finishers.

In the frosh-sophomore boys race, Kevin Lewis (17th, 14:54) and Haden Barrow (19th, 15:-4) represented the Honkers in the 2.0 mile course.

Azzurri FC makes out with win, tie

The Azzurri FC played a pair of games over the weekend and came out with one win and a tie.

They beat the Butte Matadors 4-2 on Saturday. Sully Guy scored a pair of goals while Kobe Bancroft and Gerardo Oregel each kicked in one.

On Sunday, the Azzurri FC played the Chico CC Fury and ended in a 2-2 draw.

Bancroft and Oscar Hernandez scored a goal a piece. On defense, Eric Uribe, Gilberto Lopez and Jacob Monroe stood out. Robert Quintero played well in goal.

Rage has solid opener

The Rage under-14 girls soccer team defeated the 49er Hot Shots 2-1 to open the season on Saturday.

Paty Navarro and Cassidy Fix scored a goal each.

On Sunday, the Rage tied Roseville 0-0. Goalkeeper Kasey O'Neal got the shutout victory.

YOUTH FOOTBALL

YC peewees win

The Yuba City Jr. Honkers peewee team defeated the Pioneer Patriots 14-6 on Saturday.

Brandon Thong scored both touchdowns.
