Prep Roundup: Live Oak soccer cruises by Pierce

Pierce High may have struck first on Thursday, but the Live Oak boys soccer team struck four times to win 4-1, keeping the Lions unblemished to start the season.

Hector Cibrian scored on a penalty kick just before the end of the first half to knot the score 1-1, and then the Lions took over on their homefield.

Out of the half, Cibrian scored in the first minute off a Pedro Valencia assist. Valencia then assisted Xavier Lopez and then scored the team's final goal when Cibrian paid the favor back with the assist.

Joel Cibrian, Jose Alvarado, Oziel Alvarado, Ismael Esparza, Edgar Diaz and Salvador Vargas were all credited with standout performances for Live Oak (3-0-1).

Williams 4, Colusa 1

Miscues in the midfield during the second allowed a 1-1 halftime score fall by the wayside for Colusa. Williams scored three goals in the second half to hand Colusa its first loss of the season.

Diego Valdiva scored off an assist by Joseph McKean for the Redskins' lone goal.

Vicente Gutierrez, Felipe Granados and Christian Avala (who had 12 saves), were all credited with top play for Colusa (1-1).

No information for Williams was reported.

Corning 4, Gridley 0

Gridley once boasted one of the best home winning streaks in the Mid-Valley area, so a lopsided loss at home to Corning isn't what the Bulldogs are accustomed to seeing.

The Bulldogs are now 0-3 to start the season.

GIRLS SOCCER

Live Oak 4, Pierce 0

Yadira Ramirez, Karina Gonzalez, Bibi Alejo and Taryna Lopez all scored for the Lady Lions who shut out Pierce at home.

Alejo also added an assist, while Alma Gutierrez chipped in two for Live Oak (2-1).

Leticia Salazar, who had eight saves, and Bernice Aceves were credited with outstanding performances.

Colusa 2, Williams 2

Jessica Garcia scored twice and the Lady Redskins escaped Williams with a tie.

Garcia scored once a penalty kick and another when Ashleigh Biggs dumped off an assist.

Katelyn Mena and Mimi Rimzler were credited with top games for Colusa (1-0-1).

No information for Williams was reported.

Corning 3, Gridley 0

The Lady Bulldogs also fell to the Cardinals.

The Gridley girls are now 1-2.

River Valley 39, Pleasant Valley 30

The River Valley High wrestling team hasn't lost a step.

The Falcons recorded six pins to edge Pleasant Valley.

Bryce Cooper, who wrestles in the 125-pound weight class, Jose Hernandez (130), Garrett Higgins (135), Paul Aurre (152), Christian Magenheimer (171) and Claudio Martinez each recorded pins for the Falcons.
