FRAC swimmers have spirit

Team earns award at meet; DeForest ropes rodeo events

The Feather River Aquatic Club took 15 swimmers to the Penguin Sprint Meet—Junior Olympics Qualifier event at Bear River High School over the weekend.

Claudia Guillory competed in the 11-12 girls division and took first in three of the five events she competed in. She won the 50-meter breast stroke with a time of 39.53 seconds. She also took first in the 50 free (30.27) and the 25 free (13.59). Guillory was second in the 50 back (37.21) and third in the 50 fly (35.67).

Also competing in the 11-12 girls division was Jessica Ruiz. Ruiz took third in the 50 back (37.68), 50 free (31.96) and the 25 free (14.72). She was fourth in the breast (42.76) and seventh in the 50 fly (39.33).

For the 9-10 boys age group, Arun Rai earned first place in the 50 fly (41.89) and the 50 breast (47.06). He took second in the 50 free (36.85) and third in the 100 back (43.67).

Bryce Dahlen was third in the 50 fly (46.61) and sixth in the 50 breast (56.44) and the 50 free (40.17) in the same division.

For the 15-16 boys division, Sammy Cesena earned second place in the 100 fly (1:12.46). He also was third in the 100 back (1:13.06) and the 100 breast (1:26.15) and took fourth in the 50 free (28.43).

For the 6-and-under girls division, Natalie Stafano won the 25 free (29.53) and the 25 back (32.30). She also took second in the 25 breast (40.93).

Alyssa Boucher was fifth in the 50 back (45.88) and sixth in the 50 fly (54.02) for the 9-10 girls. For the 8-and-under girls, Paige Dahlen was third in the 25 breast (27.35) and the 25 free (19.45). She also took seventh in the 25 fly (28.52).

The FRAC team earned the team spirit award at the meet and will host its annual AGO Invitational at Guache Aquatic Park on June 12-13.

RODEO

DeForest leads ropers

Wheatland's Chant DeForest took first place in tie-down roping and earned the all-around boys award at the CHSRA District III rodeo over the first weekend in May.

DeForest also placed second in steer wrestling and fourth in boys cutting. He teamed up with Eureka's Nicole Tsosie to take first in team roping.

Nicolaus' Josh Schieber partnered with Auburn's Justin Lawton to take second in team roping. Schieber was fifth in steer wrestling and earned the rookie all-around award as well.

Tyler Stueve of Marysville won the bull riding event. Chase Bisby of Live Oak was sixth in boys cutting.

Live Oak's Faith Stewart took third in pole bending and sixth in barrel racing. Yuba City's Katie Lee earned third place in breakaway and sixth in goat tying.

The top five in each event advance to Bishop for the state finals in June.

WRESTLING

Combat has eight champs

The Yuba-Sutter Combat team competed at the NAWA Championships at Shasta High in Redding and took home eight first place winners.

Jimmy Heryford, who wrestles in the 55-pound division, took first in the freestyle and Greco Roman. Cole Shelton (70), and Tyler Reynolds (95) also won both events.

Denzen Cortes (50), Sam Akin (85), Justin Gaffney (110), Alex Ingrahm (119), and Emilio Savedra (130) each earned a first place.

Danny Sandoval (175) and Dallas Stevens (60) took second for the Combat.
