FOOTBALL

Mid-Valley prep players honored

Sutter High coach Scott Turner was among five Mid-Valley area residents named to Maxpreps.com's All-State Football Team.

For Division III, Turner was named the state's coach of the year, while one of his defensive lineman, Austin Morehead, who will return next season, was named to the first-team defense in Division III.

Morehead finished as one of the state's leaders in tackles on an 11-1 Northern Section Championship Sutter team. He was also named all-section and the Butte View League's Defensive MVP.

Wheatland safety Malcolm Webb was named second-team defense for Division III, while East Nicolaus tight end Jared DePaul and Maxwell lineman John Davis were named to the second team for Division IV.

BASEBALL

YC High to host Peach Bowl clinic

Yuba College and Yuba City High players and coaches will put on a baseball clinic for the Peach Bowl Little League on Saturday from 1-4 p.m. at Yuba City High.

The clinic, which will accept boys and girls from 6-14, will be instructed by Jim Stassi, Tim Gloyd and Bill Biggs.

The program is asking for donations and is free for everyone.

SOFTBALL

New competitive team hosts tryouts

The Yuba-Sutter Strike Force, a new competitive softball organization based in the southern Mid-Valley area, is looking for dedicated softball players between the ages of 9 and 14 to take part in the Spring 2009 season.

Final tryouts will be held at South Sutter softball/baseball fields on Saturday. Pitchers and catchers' session will be held from noon-1 p.m., all other positions begin at 1 p.m.

All players must show up at least 20 minutes early for registration and warm-ups.
