Youth Roundup: Ghafour named TCC MVP
River Valley's Abdul Ghafour, who earned Tri-County Conference boys MVP, placed 26th with a time of 13:19 on the 3.1-mile course at the Sac-Joaquin Section cross country finals in Folsom on Saturday. Meredith Salazar, who was named all-TCC, finished 30th (22:28), while Angelica Baker, who was also named all-TCC, placed 48th (23:58).
Also being named all-TCC was Yuba City's Luis Zuniga and Rashad Razzada, and River Valley's Chelsea Westmoreland.
For the frosh/soph girls, Vanessa Kennedy medaled at 18th place (15:54) on the 2.1-mile course. Hayden Sampley placed 27th (14:05) for the River Valley boys.
Yuba City's Trevor Hammill ran a personal best race and medaled with a sixth-place finish overall in the sophomore boys race with a time of 12:16. He was 10th overall when combined with Division I and II.
Yuba City's Lexi Giusti also had an impressive showing, finishing seventh overall in the sophomore girls race with a time of 14:30.
Colusa runners qualify for state
The Colusa girls cross country team finished sixth overall in the Northern Section and will send Carli Marengo and Mimi Rinzler to the CIF State meet in Fresno on Nov. 29.
Azzurri top Loomis
The Azzurri Xtreme topped the Loomis Lady Falcons in two games of a doubleheader on Saturday.
The Xtreme won 1-0 in both games.
Anjelica Cisneros scored both goals and the Xtreme improved to 6-2-1 on the season. The Xtreme will wrap up its regular season Saturday against Auburn.
