Laney blows by Yuba College

The Yuba College baseball team managed just two hits Tuesday, and the 49ers dropped a 10-2 Bay Valley Conference decision at Laney College.

"It was just one of those days," Yuba coach Tim Gloyd said. "We didn't play bad. We hit 10 balls right on the button. Every ball we hit hard went right into a glove."

The weather also wreaked havoc. Gloyd noted it was extremely windy and dusty, and the 49ers hit what would have amounted to five home runs but the wind knocked the ball down every time.

Yuba (19-22, 13-13) started slowly.

"We didn't get anything started until the fourth inning," Gloyd said, noting the 49ers had the bases loaded in the first inning but failed to push across a run.

Yuba scored its only two runs in the fifth, after Laney had jumped out to a 7-0 lead.

"They threw up a five-spot on us," Gloyd said, noting the five runs Laney scored in the fourth.

Starter Zack Vawter-Scoggins took the loss.

The lone two 49ers' hits and RBIs came off the bats of Ed Ryan and Jason Hamel.

Yuba College wraps up its season against Napa Valley, traveling there on Thursday and hosting Napa on Saturday.
