Yuba Roundup: Men's soccer team wins conference title
Jonathan Garcia's lone goal was just enough for Yuba College men's soccer to clinch the Bay Valley Conference championship.
Garcia, assisted by Miguel Vasquez, scored in the 22nd minute in the second half to knock off Merritt College 1-0 in Oakland on Tuesday.
With the win, Yuba College improves to 12-4-2 overall and 8-1-2 in conference with one final match remaining on its regular season schedule.
WOMEN'S SOCCER
Yuba 1, Los Medanos 0
Leanna Knight scored the lone unassisted goal to propel the Niners to a BVC victory.
Lexi Kidd and Jocelyn Rapp each played well at mid-field for Yuba, who have played with only 12 players all season.
The Niners (11-7-2, 7-3) begin playoffs next week.
VOLLEYBALL
Yuba 3, Contra Costa 0
Fiona Newman tallied 13 kills and two assists to lead the Yuba College women's volleyball team to a 25-8, 25-13, 25-11 home Bay Valley Conference over the Contra Costa Comets.
Anquanette Taylor finished with 11 kills and three blocks. Alyse Uhland and Lateric Johnson each had six kills.
Johnson also had four digs while Uhland had three. Setter Kristan Music finished with 36 assists, five aces and two kills for the 49ers (15-6, 13-1), who have two games left before playoffs.
