'A Tree Grows in Brooklyn' next Yerxa book chosen
"A Tree Grows in Brooklyn," a semi-autobiographical account of life in Brooklyn around the turn of the last century, will be the subject of the 2017 Virginia Yerxa Community Read.
The book was a best-seller when it was published in 1943 and proved to be very popular among soldiers fighting in World War II.
Community read organizers are encouraging people to write accounts of their own history as part of the celebration, set for April 29. That day will include demonstrations, community discussions of the novel and much more.
