Sacred Heart Sodality's card party set Feb. 4
Sacred Heart Sodality of Maxwell will have its annual card party on Feb. 4.
The event will begin at 11:30 a.m. at Maxwell Elementary School, 142 North St., in the multipurpose room. Doors open at 11 a.m.
A salad bar lunch will be served first, followed by competitions in whist, bridge and pinochle. High-point winners will receive prizes of their choice from a large selection.
There will be a raffle and door prizes.
A donation of $15 is requested.

Special election set for district board
A special election will be conducted May 2 to decide whether the Cortina Community Services District's board of directors should be elected rather than appointed.
Arguments in favor of or against the measure, which would change the board from appointed to elected, may be filed from Tuesday through 5 p.m. Jan. 18. Rebuttals may be filed from Jan. 19 through 5 p.m. Jan. 30. Arguments may be up to 300 words; rebuttals are capped at 250 words. All arguments and rebuttals can be submitted to the County Clerk's Office, 546 Jay St., Ste. 200, Colusa. The office is open Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. (except as noted).
The Cortina Community Services District consists of four areas in Arbuckle.
Also on May 2, voters will decide amongst candidates to serve on the five-member board of directors, although they will serve only if the measure to change to an elected board passes.
Prospective candidates to serve on the board must live within the district. The period to file for candidacy begins Tuesday and runs through 5 p.m. Feb. 3. Candidates must submit papers to run to the County Clerk's Office.

Fish & Game to have meeting about hunters, fishers' rights
The Colusa County Fish & Game Commission will have a community meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 11 at the Williams Community Center, 860 C St.
The meeting will cover several issues about the rights of hunters and fishers. The public is invited to attend, and people are encouraged to voice their concerns.
Rice Growers Association meeting set
The 2017 Rice Growers Association annual meetings are set, and Colusa's will take place Jan. 19, not Jan. 27 as previously reported.
Registration for the meeting, which will take place at the Colusa Casino Resort Conference Center, will begin at 12:30 p.m. The meeting will take place from 1 p.m.-4 p.m.
The meetings are open to anyone with interest in agricultural issues. They are sponsored by UC Cooperative Extension.
Sac Bee writer to speak at garden club meeting
Debbie Arrington, the Sacramento Bee's home and garden writer, will be the guest speaker at the next meeting of the Garden Club of Colusa County.
Arrington is a lifely gardener and consulting rosarian.
The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Jan. 23 at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, on the corner of Fifth and Webster streets in Colusa. A social will precede the meeting at 6:30 p.m. All are invited to attend.
