The California Highway Patrol asked for the public’s help last week in locating the suspect in an active homicide investigation.

According to the CHP, officers responded to what was believed to be  a fatal single vehicle traffic collision Feb. 21 on state Highway 20 near mile marker 42.2 in Lake County.

As the investigation continued, however, it was determined that the driver, Patrick Weber,  died from a gunshot wound, according to a press release issued by the Ukiah Area CHP.

“California Highway Patrol investigators have discovered a person of interest and a vehicle associated with this case,” read the release.

CHP also released images of the person of interest, who is described as a white man in his 20s or 30s, weighing about 160 pounds and is between 5 feet 8 inches tall and 6 feet tall.

The car sought by CHP investigators is a late 1990s or early 2000s tan or gold Dodge Durango SUV.

CHP asks anyone with information regarding the person of interest or the car to contact the Ukiah Communications Center at 707-467-4000, 24 hours a day, with any information pertaining to the investigation.
