Senior Cameron Telford plays in his last match for the RedHawks at the Butte View League championships at the Yuba City Racquet Club on April 25.

Colusa’s boys’ tennis team concluded its season last Thursday at the Yuba City Racquet Club after coming up short against powerful teams from Sutter and Orland in the Butte View League championships.

Three RedHawks advanced out of the first round before ultimately falling in the second.

In sweltering temperatures, senior Cameron Telford, seeded No. 6 in the tournament, defeated Sutter’s

Jack Krehe (8-5) before dropping his next match to Orland’s Ben Fernandez (8-5).

No. 10 Diego Avila downed his first round opponent (8-2), but could not hold off, No. 7 seed and semifinalist Theo Bravos from Sutter who recorded the 8-3 win.

Turning in a solid performance at No. 16, Adrien Perez edged his first round foe (8-6) before being ousted in an 8-2 loss at the hands of eventual tournament champion Sutter’s Preston Hastings.

The RedHawks will say goodbye to their two seniors, Telford and Trent Giffin, but will return an eager core of younger players who have steadily improved throughout the season according to coach Tina Lyons.

“Our young players have grown so much and I’m excited to come back next year and see what they can do,” said the first-year head coach.

Colusa finished the season 3-6 in the Butte View League.
