Longtime Mid-Valley residents David E. and Katherine Ann Croyl, the former Katherine Pearson, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a private family dinner.

The couple met when they bumped into one another on a sidewalk in San Francisco the night before David was leaving for Vietnam with the U.S. Navy.

He served two tours of duty in Vietnam.

They were married April 8, 1967, at Park Wedding Chapel in Reno, Nev., and have been residents of Colusa for 37 years.

They lived in North Aurora, Ill., from 1969-79.

David, originally from North Aurora, Ill., retired after working 34 years for AT&T, then worked another 21⁄2 years for ITT in Iraq and two years for Lockheed-Martin in Afghanistan as a civilian.

Katherine, born in Colusa, is a homemaker. She attended Our Lady of Lourdes Parish School and Colusa High School.

The couple enjoys retirement with their Yorkie, Herbie.

Their family includes daughter Gena Croyl Becerra of Yuba City and son Jason D. Croyl of Colusa; and two grandchildren.
