Although school has been out for less than a month, preparation for the upcoming football season is underway as teams hit the weight room, run drills and look to engage in non-contact but competitive situations.
Among the local teams, the Colusa RedHawks got to mix it up on the field when they welcomed the Lindhust Blazers to Colusa on June 17 for some 7-on-7 play.
For Colusa coach Matt Jessee, the 7-on-7 format is a nice change of pace from the summer grind and helps familiarize his squad with the RedHawk scheme.
“It allows our players to get acclimated to the passing system and route tree. It also provides a game like atmosphere that is difficult to simulate in practice. Overall, it is a good way for our guys to improve on both sides of the ball,” said the second year coach of the RedHawks.
Colusa continued its regiment this week as they traveled to Lindhurst for another round of 7-on-7.
