An investigation into a collision that resulted in one fatality remains ongoing, according to a press release issued by the Williams area Department of California Highway Patrol.
A driver, who has only been identified as a 66-year-old female from Paradise, was driving east bound on State Route 20 west of Walnut Drive outside of Williams when her vehicle drifted off of the roadway for unknown reasons.
According to the release, the driver turned the wheel sharply several times to get back on the correct side of the road.
“As a result, the driver lost full control and ran off the roadway,” read the press release. “The vehicle went down an embankment and collided with a dirt berm.”
Following the initial impact, the vehicle continued out of control, overturned and collided with a fence in an orchard.
“The vehicle came to rest on its side and the driver was partially ejected from the driver’s side window,” read the release.
The initial investigation of the collision indicated that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
It is still unknown at this time if drugs or alcohol played a role in this incident.
