Both the Pierce and Colusa track teams traveled to Yuba College on March 21 to compete amongst the 17 team field at the John “O” Invite and came away with some impressive performances as the Bears registered 10 top 10 placings, while the RedHawks recorded five.
Senior Anahi Villaueva led the Pierce varsity girls in the field events finishing fourth in the shot put with a toss of 30-04 and eighth in discus with throw of 74-06.
Betsy Myers, who placed fifth in triple jump (29-11) and ninth in the 400 meters (1:08.89) along with Montserrat Ambriz who was 10th in the 200 meters (30:02), turned in other notable performances for the Bears.
Pierce’s women’s 4x100 meter relay team, which included Ambriz, Maria Rivera, Sarah Vann and Jessica Orozco finished sixth overall in a time of 55.75.
The Bears also had a strong showing in the men’s jumping events as Daniel Medina sets two personal records taking fifth in high jump (5-06) and sixth in long jump (19-00), while Aiden Charter was eighth in triple jump (34-09).
Pierce’s men’s 4x400 relay team consisting of Gerardo Alvarado, Eduardo Ambriz Charter and Eduardo Paiz was sixth (4:03.17).
For Colusa in the varsity women’s events the RedHawks got seventh place finishes from sophomore America Montano in the 100 meters (14:06) and senior Sophia Stocks in discus (76-09).
Lucas Garin ran the fastest 400-meter time in Colusa High School history dating back to 2006 as he crossed the line in sixth place with a personal record of 55:15.
In men’s shot put the RedHawks’ William Graybill also set a personal best with a throw of 36-08 to land in 10 th place.
Colusa’s men’s 4x400 meter relay team, comprised of Ryan Gutierrez, Johathan Muniz, Jacob Arce and the anchor Garin finished in seventh place.
Weather permitting, both teams are scheduled to participate in the first Sacramento Valley League meet of the season today in Arbuckle and plan to be in Durham on Friday for Colusa’s Vern Regier Invitational.
