With high school sports season’s coming at rapid fire during the year, recognizing post season accolades often takes back seat.
However, now that the 2018-19 school year is approaching its end, here is a look at the Sacramento Valley League All-League selections for both boys and girls soccer.
Heading the list was Williams’ Mauricio Morales, who was named the SVL’s Offensive MVP. Morales, a junior, is a lethal combination of speed and skill with the ball, and as a result finished the year with 17 goals, 33 assists (tops in the Northern section) and 57 overall points.
Also picking up honors for the Division III runner-ups was senior goalkeeper Diego Jauregui, senior defender/midfielder Erik Ruiz and freshman Michael Cervantes, who played both forward and midfield for the Yellowjackets during the season.
Colusa, which finished fourth in the SVL, had two players named to the boy’s team, including senior Leo Guzman and sophomore Edgar Garcia.
Rounding out the top performers among the boys was Pierce senior David Caravez.
For the girls, Colusa, as the Division III runner up, got three spots on the All-League team, which went to its three starting defenders.
Seniors Cindy, Hernandez, Emily Pantoja-Reyes and Dyanna Santana, who were the core of the RedHawk defense and a major reason for Colusa’s resurgent season, each earned All-League patches.
Finally, while it was a tough season overall for the Yellowjackets on the girl’s pitch, seniors Carmen Contreras and Lizet Hernandez were recognized for their efforts.
