Earlier this year, the Sutter Union High School Rifle Team competed in National Rifle Association sectionals in both Junior and open divisions. The junior division is comprised of competitors under 21 years of age, and the open division is for any age group. Yearly, the NRA conducts these matches nationwide as postal matches. Teams compete locally and the scores are combined nationally.
In the door conventional Smallbore Junior Sectional rifle team members Madyson Pack, Sarah Benesh, Madelynn Erickson and Sophia Flores won the Junior Sectional National Championship. Team members A.J Fedora, Mirette Ochsner, Ryan Olivera and Dawn Mcllain placed second in the Scholastic Division. In 3 Position Smallbore Open competition, team members Benesh, Flores, Olivera and Erickson placed third overall.
In 3 Position Air Rifle Junior Sectionals, the team of Pack, Benesh, Erickson, and Dawn Mcllwain won first place in the Scholastic Division. Also in 3P Scholastic, Flores, Nadine Ahola, Joe Benesh, and Malena Childers placed ninth in the nation. In Open Precision Air Rifle , in the Marksman/Sharp Shooter Division, Mcllwain, Erickson, Pack and Sarah Benesh placed first. In the Expert Division, Ochner, Olivera, Russel Graf and Flores placed second. In addition, the team of Paige Smith, Childers, Will Hines, and Robyn Sanchez placed fifth.
