A Tehama County man who pleaded guilty to charges ranging from assault to commit rape to lewd and lascivious acts upon a child has been sentenced to 30 years in prison.
The Tehama County Superior Court handed down the maximum sentence to Scott McLaughlin, 51, of Cottonwood on Friday, June 28.
McLaughlin was arrested in 2017 and held on $5 million bail.
Prosecutors said he ran a motocross business, using it to meet and groom his young male victims.
He allegedly used drugs or threats to force the minors to perform sexual acts, and threatened them if they reported the abuse.
McLaughlin was originally charged with at least 22 felony counts related to child sex abuse, but in a plea deal with the Tehama County District Attorney’s Office just days before the case was set for trial he pleaded guilty to five of those charges.
