The Corning softball team fell to Las Plumas at home on Friday, 4-3.
After two scoreless innings for both teams, the Cardinals managed to get two runs in the third and the Thunderbirds scored three. Each team scored another run before the end of the game but Las Plumas held onto the lead.
The Cardinals’ Lizzy Fuller went 1-for-1 with a single, a base on ball and two runs; Mayze Menefee was 1-for-2 with a singled a base on ball and two RBIs; and Katlyn Allen went 1-for-3 with a double.
Corning’s luck turned on Tuesday when they defeated Paradise, 7-6.
The first two innings went scoreless for both teams again and Corning scored at the bottom of the third. Both the Bobcats and Cardinals scored two in the fourth, Corning scored two in the fifth and Paradise scored four in the seventh.
The game went into extras and the Cardinals scored the winning run at the bottom of the eighth.
Corning’s Nayeli Lara went 3-for-4 with a triple, two doubles, a base on ball and one RBI; Menefee was 2-for-5 with two singles and an RBI; Nicole Dodge went 2-for-4 with two singles and an RBI; Isabel Jones had a singe, one RBI and went 1-for-4; and Alisa Feelo had a single, one RBI and went 1-for-4.
The Cardinals (12-5) will play at Oroville on Friday at 4 p.m.
