Corning High’s softball team dominated both Placer and Alpha Charter at East Nicolaus High School on Saturday.

Against Placer, the Cardinals won 6-2.

The Cardinals scored two runs at the top of the third against Placer’s one. Corning then scored six runs at the top of the sixth. Placer scored one in the fifth.

Leading Corning was Shannon Jones who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and four RBIs; Nyali Lara was 1-for-4 with a double; and Olivia went 1-for-4 with a single and two RBIs. 

The Cardinals defeated Alpha Charter High School 9-2.

They started off strong scoring six runs in the first two innings against Alpha’s one. They went on to score two in the third and one in the fourth. Alpha Charter scored one run at the top of the fifth. 

Corning’s Makenzie Prest went 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBIs; Henderson was 1-for-3 with one home run and an RBI; and Shannon Jones went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.



The Cardinals continued their success against Gridley on Tuesday.

The girls took an early lead, scoring five runs at the bottom of the first against the Bulldogs’ lone run. The Cardinals scored four in the fourth and two in the fifth, with an overall win 11-1.

Corning was led by Isabelle Jones who went 1-for-3 with a single and two RBIs; Olivia Henderson was 1-for-4 with a double and one RBI; Makenzie Prest went 2-for-4 with two singles; Mayze Menefee was 3-for-3 with three singles and an RBI; Alisa Feelo went 2-for-3 with a single, a double and two RBIs; Shannon Jones went 2-for-2 with two singles and one RBI; and Kaitlyn Allen was 2-for-3 with two singles and two RBIs.

The Cardinal girls go against Wheatland at home today at 4 p.m.
