Corning volunteer firefighters and emergency personnel from a St. Elizabeth Community ambulance take care of a Corning woman, 87-year-old Lu George, who was struck by a car as she was crossing Solano Street around noon, Wednesday.

According to Corning police, George was crossing at Second Street when she was struck by a Honda Accord driven by Don Lewis, 92, of Corning.

It appears Lewis had checked for motor traffic in both directions before pulling out of Second Street onto eastbound Solano Street, but had failed to see George crossing the street. George, suffering moderate injuries, was transported by ambulance to an area hospital for treatment.
