Corning City Clerk Lisa Linnet conducted the swearing-in ceremony of the town’s newly elected officials on Tuesday evening, including Mayor Doug Hatley, Councilman Dave Demo and Councilwoman Karen Burnett.
Moments before the ceremony, the City Council, including outgoing member, Councilwoman Darlene Dickison, unanimously approved the results of the Nov. 6 election. That election resulted in incumbent Dickison losing by a narrow margin to Burnett, who was running for city council in an official election for the first time.
Burnett made a bid for a seat on the council earlier this year when former Councilman Dave Linnet resigned. Linnet’s seat, which was up for appointment by the remaining members of the council, went to Demo.
Now the two elected city officials sit on the council with councilmen Chuy Valerio and Robert Snow, led by Mayor Hatley, who was elected in November to his second two-year term.
Both Burnett and Demo will serve four-year terms.
The next City Council meeting will be 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 11, in the Council Chambers, 794 Third St.
See next Thursday’s Corning Observer for an article on Dickison, the recognition she received from the city, and memories of her more than 50 years of service to Corning.
