The first Williams High School Soccer Tournament took place on Dec. 8.

It was organized by Williams’ girls soccer coach Kristi Hill and the event featured five boys teams and six girls teams in some tightly contested and competitive matches.

Corning, Williams, Dixon, Las Plumas, Pierce, Vacaville and Willows were all represented during the tournament.

Corning girls and boys soccer teams traveled to the Williams Tournament last week. 

The Corning boys won the inaugural title and one of the players was selected as MPV of the tournament.

The Corning girls had a tough match in the first round against Dixon that they lost, but defeated the Williams Yellowjackets and Willows Honkers. 

BOYS SOCCER

The Cardinals won the title after defeating Vacaville 2-1 at the Williams Tournament on Dec. 8.

Julian Guzman and Manuel Sanchez each scored a goal during the game.

Ricky Guzman of the Cardinals was selected as MVP of the Williams Tournament.

On Dec. 7, the Corning boys tied with Williams 2-2 during the tournament.

Julian Guzman and Manuel Sanchez also each scored during the match.

The Cardinals defeated the Las Plumas Thunderbirds 4-1 on Dec. 8.

Julian Guzman had three goals during the match and Tristan Sandoval Palacios scored a goal.

Corning will play against Red Bluff on Dec. 18 at home at 3:15 p.m.

GIRLS SOCCER

In a tough match in the first round of the Williams Tournament on Dec. 7, Corning girls were defeated by the Dixon Rams 3-1.

Nayeli Lara scored the Cardinals’ goal.

However, later that day the Cardinals came back to defeat the Willows Honkers 9-0.

Corning started out strong with seven goals in the first half.

Brianna Cardoso and Lara were the high scorers for the team with two goals each. Aide Solorio, Elizabeth Saldana Favela, Sulema Para, Itzel Ramirez and Diana Jimenez all scored a goal during the match.

The Cardinals went on to defeat Williams 7-0 on Dec. 8.

Corning had another strong start, scoring five goals in the first half.

No individual stats were available before publication.

The Corning girls will play against Shasta on Dec. 13 at Shasta High School. 

BOYS BASKETBALL

Los Molinos 48, Williams 60

Los Molinos suffered their first loss of the season against Williams on Dec. 8. 

The schedule or stats were not available for the Bulldogs prior to publication.
