Potluck kicks off school year
A potluck dinner next week kicks off the school year 2016-2017 for the monthly event at Sutter United Methodist Church, 7751 S. Butte Road.
The potluck is at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The public is welcome.
The evening includes talking about plans for the year and games.
The dinner is set the third Wednesday of each month.

Brewster to play music festival
National recording artist Lincoln Brewster is the headliner for the third annual Yuba-Sutter music festival Band Together for Christ, hosted at Faith Christian High School in Yuba City.
A former guitarist for Steve Perry, he is the worship arts pastor at Bayside Church in Rocklin.
Gates open at 5 p.m. Sept. 24 for the concert at 3105 Colusa Highway. Admission is free, with a $5 donation requested for parking.
Those attending are asked to bring a chair or blanket for seating.
The day includes three bands, a kids' area and more than 14 concession booths.
Persons bringing an item for Operation Christmas Child receive a chance to win a prize.

85 quilts will be displayed
Eighty-five quilts to be donated to Lutheran World Relief and local charities are on display Sept. 25 at the 8:30 a.m. and 10:51 a.m. services at First Lutheran Church, 850 Cooper Ave., Yuba City.
The display is coordinated by the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.
Supplies for the quilts come from donations of fabric and scraps, plus batting through Thrivent Financial Action Teams.
Tickets available for 'Dancing'
Tickets are available for "Dancing Under the Stars" dinner-dance to benefit St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marysville.
The fundraiser is from 6 p.m.-10 p.m. Oct. 1 at 702 C St.
Tickets are $30 at the door or $25 in advance, available at the parish office, 223 Eighth St., Marysville.
Dinner, catered by Yuba College Culinary program students, includes grilled chicken pasta, roast beef and locally grown vegetables.
Music is provided by 2 Rivers Band featuring Daniella Spadini. The event also includes live and silent auctions.

199 hygiene kits donated
A total of 199 hygiene kits for persons in need in the community were prepared and distributed by the Yuba City Stake Relief Society of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Yuba County Health and Human Services Division.
The kits included deodorant, toothbrushes and toothpaste, soap and razors and were given to St. John's Episcopal Church and the women and children's shelter and men's mission in Marysville to help homeless persons.
Project coordinators were Cora Sharp from the church's Wheatland ward and Chaya Galicia, manager of the Homeless Outreach program for Yuba County.
