Willows Basketball

The Honkers' Meghan Weinrich, in a photo from a previous game, looks to drive baseline after catching pass.  Weinrich had 25 points in Willows’ playoff win over Colusa on Feb. 14.

Returning to the court to face their Sacramento Valley League foe for the second time in six days, the No.1 Honkers overcame a season low 13-point first half, to dominate the game after intermission and double up the No. 8 RedHawks in the second round of the NSCIF Division IV playoffs.

Leading the way for the Honkers was the Northern Section’s leading scorer, Meghan Weinrich, who after a slow start, took matters into her own hands pouring in 21 of her game high 25 points in the second half.

Tayler Berens added seven points while Marissa Peters and Claire Maghan pitched in with six apiece in the win.

Willows (20-5) continued its section title defense Tuesday at home against No. 5 West Valley, who reached the semifinal game by upsetting No. 4 Oroville.

Results were not available by the Glenn County Transcript’s print deadline, although the winner of the contest advances to the championship round – which will be played at Butte College on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
