A drive-through celebration took place on Saturday in honor of Mabel Torres’ 104th birthday at the Bayliss Fire Department. Mary Leonardo, Torres’ great-niece, said they counted and 148 people drove by to wish Torres a happy birthday. “She didn’t realize that she knew so many people and hadn’t seen them in so long,” Leonardo said. Torres’ secret to her longevity, Leonardo said, is to keep busy and moving and another secret is that she eats half a banana every morning. Torres grew up in Artois (which was known as Germantown then) and now lives in Bayliss. Leonardo said Torres loves gardening.
