For the 10th consecutive year, the Willows Honkers volleyball team ended the season as the Sacramento Valley League champions, achieving the mark last Tuesday night with a four set win over the visiting Colusa RedHawks by scores of 25-16, 14-25, 25-21, 25-18.

Ultimately, it was the Honkers’ play at the net and timely serving that proved to be the difference in the match.

Leading Willows up front was the Northern Section’s top hitter Meghan Weinrich (.397) who finished with 13 kills and four blocks, along with senior middle Claire Maghan who contributed 10 additional kills.

Setter Tayloy O’Reilly recorded a double doubles doling out 25 assists and making 10 digs, as did defensive specialist Hanna Parisio who had a team high 14 digs to go along with 11 service receptions.

As the SVL champs, the Honkers (23-13, 7-1) received the No. 4 spot in the NSCIF Division IV playoffs and will host the No. 5 RedHawks in the second round match on Thursday at 7 p.m.
