The Orland Holy Ghost Club’s Portuguese Festa will take place this weekend.
The 77th annual event began in 1942 and the Orland Holy Ghost Club’s committee welcomes everyone who may want to attend.
This year’s Big Queen is Laynee Haywood. Her side maids are Hannah Rock and Sarah French.
The Little Queen is Jayda Corriea. Her side maids are Kaitlyn Enos and Ella Rouse.
The celebration will begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday with mass at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, 822 A St., Orland.
The royalty are then paraded to the Glenn County Fairgrounds to enjoy music, dancing and food. A traditional meal of roast beeg, potato salad and sopas, a bread dish soaked in beeg broth and cabbage, will be served from noon-3 p.m.
A father-daughter dance with the two festa queens and their side maids will begin at 2 p.m. Festa queens from Chico, Princeton and other towns are also set to attend.
Music and refreshments will be served until 6 p.m.
