Orland considers new fund
Buildings sometimes fall into disrepair and become eyesores.
This is usually because the owners either don’t have the money to maintain a building they own, or they simply don’t care.
The Orland City Council recently considered creating a financial plan to deal with nuisance properties.
This is a great idea. Like many cities, both big and small, Orland has several properties within its limits that would qualify as a nuisance.
Setting aside leftover money to create an emergency account is a good way to create such a fund.
Let’s hope the council explores this idea more in the future.
Get ready for football
School is back in session.
At the high school level, that means it’s time to turn on the Friday night lights once again for another sure to be rousing season of prep football.
The first game of the 2017 season is Friday, with the Orland Trojans taking on Bear River, the Willows Honkers taking on Durham and the Hamilton Braves taking on Biggs.
So get ready to cheer on the home teams for the next few weeks.
And look for the Transcript to have coverage of as many games as possible in the sports pages, as well.
