Festa celebrates traditions
As immigrants move to the United States, the traditions they observed in their country of origin can sometimes fall away as they assimilate into the culture.
That's kind of a shame. That's why it's great the Portuguese Festa is such an important event for the community.
The event, held recently, drew residents from all over the region to celebrate Portuguese heritage and culture.
Events celebrating a culture living within the United States are great for learning about the culture and what it has to offer.
Let's hope this event continues well into the future.
Willows takes walk on wild side
There's nothing quite like having an up close and personal experience with an exotic animal.
About 100 Willows community members had just that recently at the Willows Library, as Colfax-based animal rescue Conservation Ambassadors paid a visit to teach children about wildlife.
Animal handler Gabe Kerschner brought a baby raccoon, a weeper capuchin monkey, a red-tailed hawk, a green iguana, a skunk and a six-foot alligator.
This was a great learning experience for the kids.
