To celebrate the four-legged companions that help get us through rough times, the Yuba-Sutter-Colusa Counties Relay for Life will host Bark for Life at the Marysville High School track, 12 18th St., Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

“Our dogs are an important part of our lives, they are family members and they are an important part of people working to get well so we wanted to celebrate them” said Matthew Foor, community development manager for the American Cancer Society.

Foor said because pets are not usually welcome at Relay for Life events, organizers wanted to plan a special event dedicated just to them.

“Bark for Life was created for dog lovers,” said Foor. “Our signature event, Relay For Life, does not allow dogs. Because our dogs are such amazing caregivers to cancer patients we came up with Bark for Life so that we can celebrate our love for our pets and thank them for how much love and comfort they provide cancer patients.”

The event will feature music, a photo booth to pose with your pooch, dog walking, a barbecue lunch, raffles, a dad-focused relay contest, games and more.

Scarfs, key chains, food bowls and other goodies with the “Bark for life” logo will also be available to purchase.

An event of this kind has not been held in several years and organizers are hoping to spark the community’s interest this year so Bark for Life can become an annual event, said Foor.

Admission for the event is free to the public, but donations to the American Cancer Society will be accepted.
