An Oregon House man accused of sexually abusing a relative made a court appearance Wednesday.
The pre-hearing conference for 35-year-old Jasper Morton was continued for further investigation, according to court documents. He faces the possibility of 50 years imprisonment for the alleged offenses.
Morton was arrested last month and charged with six felony counts: sexual intercourse with a minor, oral copulation, two counts’ penetration by foreign object of a minor, assault to commit rape in concert with force, and incest — to which he pleaded not guilty.
A 15-year-old girl disclosed to investigators that since April, Morton had raped her and committed other acts of sexual abuse, the latest incident being the week before he was arrested, court documents show. The abuse was reported to the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office after the victim had disclosed it to a relative, according to archives.
Morton was arrested two days after it had been reported and he denied the allegations, according to court documents.
At his arraignment June 20, Morton was appointed a public defender and a criminal protective order was issued. His initial $2.5 million bail was lowered to $900,000. He remains in Yuba County Jail.
