The annual Obon Odori Festival comes to the Buddhist Church of Marysville this month and organizers are seeking people to participate in dances. Practice starts next week.
The Obon Odori Dance Festival will kick off July 20 with memorial services at the church at 4 p.m., followed by the dance at 7:30 p.m. The Grass Valley Taiko, a drumming group, will perform at 8:30 p.m.
People of any age and skill level are welcome to participate in the dance practices and dance as part of the festival.
The free event also features box dinners of teriyaki chicken and rice for takeout starting at 3 p.m. Cost is $14 and people can reserve their meal ahead of time or they will be available on a first come, first serve basis.
Practice sessions for the Obon Odori Dance take place at the Marysville Buddhist Church annex, 125 B Street, Marysville on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Practices are on July 9, 11, 16, and 18 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
