Rising temperatures make local rivers a tempting place to cool off and Yuba City’s community policing coordinator Katy Goodson had some safety tips for swimmers:
– Never swim alone.
– Take care when walking on slippery or uneven surfaces.
– Avoid drinking alcohol.
– Wear a life jacket.
– Always keep an eye on young children and avoid distractions such as cell phones when you are supposed to be the one supervising the children.
– Learn lifesaving skills. Carry a first aid kit and know how to use it. Learn or review medical aid responsibilities and CPR.
– Know that the currents in the river are extremely unpredictable and even the most avid swimmer can be caught off guard.
