A man suspected of killing two people Friday in Yuba City was arrested in Los Angeles early Saturday, according to a Yuba City Police Department press release.
The Sutter County Sheriff’s Office identified the victims of Friday’s double homicide in Yuba City as 73-year-old Margarita Contreras and 41-year-old Jose M. Ramirez.
The Los Angeles area California Highway Patrol located 19-year-old Diego Martinez in a vehicle with his mother, Christy Madi, 36, of Yuba City, and two juveniles, it was reported.
Martinez was arrested on suspicion of murder and Madi was arrested on suspicion of being an accessory to murder. They were booked into Los Angeles County Jail, pending transport to Sutter County. The minors were taken into custody by Child Protective Services.
Friday, Yuba City police had received a call reporting gunshots in the 1200 block of Clark Avenue (across from King Avenue Elementary School) just before noon Friday, police said. The caller could see bodies, it was reported.
Inside the home police found Contreras and Ramirez dead of apparent gunshot wounds.
Police late in the day Friday issued a photo of Martinez and said he was a person of interested, and warned that he could be armed.
